It may have only been three years since Gareth Jenkins and his wife took the reins at Burry Port-based Celtic Couriers, but since then they have invested an impressive £350,000 – the majority of which has been spent on progressively replacing his 30-strong fleet comprising four trailers, six HGVs and 22 vans.
A solid business with roots stretching back to 1989, Celtic Couriers had already enjoyed a quarter of a century of steady growth offering parcel, pallet and same day deliveries nationwide.
Today the company covers the SA postcode for the Fortec Distribution Network of which it has been a member for over 15 years and APC. Celtic Couriers employs a 44-strong workforce.
Now under Gareth’s leadership, Celtic Couriers has its sights on further growth, particularly within the SME sector – with customer service and continuous investment underpinning the company’s success.
Gareth explained:
“We pride ourselves on customer service.
“We always go the extra mile and every member of our team always strives to give the same level of service to every customer, that they would expect themselves.”
It’s an ethos that works well within the company. Rather than chasing high volumes Celtic Couriers provides an invaluable service to SMEs – in particular those who need to move fragile goods and those whose businesses rely on timed deliveries.
Among the goods regularly moved by Celtic Couriers are beers, wines and spirits, perishables, glass and fragile goods.
As the company continues to evolve Gareth is progressively tailoring the fleet to suit business needs and replacement vehicles include two trailers, each bearing the name of the Fortec Distribution Network, two 18-tonne vehicles, and more than a dozen vans.
Gareth continued:
“Our customers like what we do and are able to offer. Our ability to provide a bespoke service tailored to individual customer’s needs underpinned by strong IT, through Fortec, offering total transparency across the network, are vital tools in helping us both retain and win new business.
“Whilst the transport market is forever challenging we believe what we have to offer is unique to the region and the future is very exciting.”
